Hello, and thanks for being here!
I am really loving getting into the rhythm of making these small, seasonal collections of work and then writing these missives to you all about them. It’s helping me to sink deeper into the cycle of inward making and outward offering in a way that will only strengthen in time, and I am excited to see what emerges from it. So, truly, thank you for supporting and enabling this work to grow and expand. The web-shop (here) is open now, with a few pomegranates and valentines, as well as the option to order a custom-imagery-adorned candle. This shop update feels in a way like a late-winter encore of the previous two wintry collections—a little of elements of both—so if you missed those, and are interested in reading more about the stories behind the pomegranates and the valentines, those newsletters are archived on my Substack homepage (here).
It was a pleasure to fire the enormous anagama kiln at the Cobb Mountain Art and Ecology Center, with a lovely crew who kept morale high even through storms and midnight wood-splitting. I am newly in love with wood-firing and cannot wait to make a bigger collection of pieces for the next firing in May. Wood-firing is my new love but painting is my old love, and I am beside myself with joy to be reunited with it! I hope these valentines hold a bit of that spark in their colors.
Lastly, I wanted to share this Q&A with Maja Ruznic ( maybe my favorite living painter?!) at her show Geometry of Exile. I found it to be incredibly inspiring and enlivening. Even if you’re not in love with painting, you might find it a deeply moving and illuminating inquiry into the creative process:
With love,
Catherine
