spring studio refresh
a few one of a kind pieces in the shop!
Hello out there, happy spring!
We were graced with unexpected sun-showers this morning, and I am feeling the urge to emulate that clearing, cleansing, revitalizing energy inside my studio.
In that spirit, there are a few pieces newly listed in the web-shop. There are a couple copper cut-outs and a small painting from the winter that I’ve held onto. I’d loved having them around, but now I’d love even more for them to be sent out, and to recirculate their energy into making new work.
One of the ways this energy will recirculate is that I am beginning to make new work for a solo show in July! I’ll share more details on that soon, but for now will just say that it will be in Olema, California, and will feature big paintings, big mobiles, and experiments with earth and stone pigments. I haven’t created or shown a body of work since 2019, as I’ve been focused mostly on commissioned pieces, seasonal web-shop offerings, and illustrations. That is to say, everything leaves the studio as soon as it is made and photographed, pieces rarely stick around and grow into that special alchemical constellation/conversation of a “body of work.” And, while this model has allowed me to make a living as an artist, which I intend to continue, I am also eager to be more strategic with time and resources this year to carve out time in the studio that is a sanctuary for deeper, longer-form work. Art that takes on a life of its own outside my expectations, as well as the deadlines and specific collaborative energy of commissions. I’m really excited!
As always, thank you for reading. I hope you’re experiencing the renewal and emergence of the season in your own ways. Here’s the link again for the newly released pieces in the shop.
With care,
Catherine
